Hey again. I’m here with a quick recap from yesterday and sad news concerning the new “A Band of Retards” episode. First off the bad news. I didn’t get enough stuff on my cam yesterday for this episode but i will try to look at old ED tapes (practise, gigs etc…) if i find something. Yesterady was a success in many ways, although some people from work who said would come, never showed up, can’t say that i’m surprised though. At 5.30pm me, Niko and Ville went to our practise place to get our stuff (amps, drums, cabinets and whatnot). We came to S-Osis at around 6pm when we started loading our stuff in and after we were done, Sauli and Henry showed up like rockstars avoiding the load-in. After i set up my drums Sauli was kind enough to put my cymbals in place, my own drumtech. Sauli did indeed on some Deep Insight tours help me alot around with the drums and he knows (i guess) how i keep my stuff, thanks Sauli for that. We soundchecked first since we had been changed to be the “headlining act” (the last to play, so to speak). And after us Kolt, Thrust Moment and Sixtus did their checks as well, everything sounded marvellous. So after that started the inevitable waiting. At 10pm i picked up Melanie and two of her friends to the venue and at about 10.40pm local band Sixtus climbed on stage and did their set.
And boy, oh boy was that a brutal set. And it was their first gig as well, and with that in mind, they blew me personally away, with the stage charisma and brutal-ness. Next up was Thrust Moment from Pori to rock the stage, they had the most crowd in front of the stage during the set, lots of fans and so on. They played a solid math/metalcore set, consisted modtly of screaming vocals, but also some clean, which in my opinion could be left out, didn’t really fit. After Sixtus’ energetic performance, this band band (TM) seemed a bit unenergetic. Sixtus really set a har performance to follow.
After this it was time for “veteran” mathcore band KOLT to show how it’s done. In my opinion the best act of the night. Hard to describe, these guys kick some major butt and with an kungfu intro (tape) it was full speed ahead for a whole set. Kolt’s drummer must’ve been the greatest i’ve seen playing live in a long time and getting compliments from him after Endrive’s set was really heart-warming.
SO finally it was our time to rock and for the first part of the set i had trouble with my bass drum not staying in place but Viktor von Doom (also known as Henri) fixed the kickdrum and after that it was fullspeed for me too. We did seven songs and surprisingly we had a bit of a pit going on in front of the stage, must’ve been the first time. We had a blast on stage and i didn’t do any major mess-ups, one minor one but i dont think anyone (in the crowd) noticed, some band members smiled at me so i guess they noticed. After the show i took Melanie and her friends back and during this Sauli has cased up my drums and put my hardware together, thanks again Sauli for helping out. I returned to S-Osis for a load-out and took the stuff to the practise place with Niko and Henry and then returned home at around 2.20am.
So as Miska would say (who actually was at the gig) “that was that”. Video material coming soon, as well as pictures (Niko’s wife took some shots, so we’re waiting for those to pop up). Now i’m going to spend a nice day with Melanie so i will see you soon again. And remember, what Hanoi Rocks once wisely and gramatically correctly said “Rock and Roll is Never Die”
peace love and understanding,
